Watch highlights of new Pittsburgh Steelers TE Phazahn Odom
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed 6-foot-8, 251-pound Fordham tight end Phazahn Odom to a contract following his rookie minicamp tryout, according to The Houston Chronicle. Odom was one of three tight ends in the camp, alongside Pitt undrafted rookie free agent signing Scott Orndoff and fellow tryout player Paul Butler, out of Indiana (Pa.).
Mike Tomlin paid close attention to the position group through at least the first two days of rookie minicamp, Orndoff said. And the Steelers are scattered in the position.
Ladarius Green finished last season unable to play in concussion protocol, Jesse James was a reliable receiving option but struggled to block and the same was even more true of Xavier Grimble. David Johnson, who is primarily a blocking tight end, also re-signed with the team.
Odom’s output dipped in his senior year as a Football Championship Series standout. As a junior he caught 37 passes for 492 yards with seven touchdowns. Here, we watch him make many of those plays in what amounts to a career highlight reel:
