PITTSBURGH — The demons of recent Steelers seasons past seemed to have caught up to them.
They had run out of offensive outbursts to cover for missed tackles or blown assignments downfield. Ben Roethlisberger’s extra clutches of the football under pressure couldn’t be made up for by any more turnovers, red zone stands or opponents’ penalties.
Pittsburgh had suffered the kind of injury that faithful, mournful fans would rattle off when looking back on the current era of Steelers teams and Super Bowl runs that could’ve been — but in potential life-, not season-altering fashion.
Yet the Steelers escaped once more. Antonio Brown could and did get loose over the middle of the field. Pittsburgh ran out to a 46-yard game winning field and the defensive that had damned the Steelers to struggling for much of the game finished off its second straight stand en route to a 39-38 AFC North-clinching victory against the Baltimore Ravens.
MVP – Antonio Brown
Though Pittsburgh got crucial contributions from Jesse James, Martavis Bryant and Le’Veon Bell it was Brown who broke drives, quarters and the game open with 11 catches for 213 yards.
Most Important Play
Brown breaking down the right sideline against one more solo coverage to put the Steelers in scoring, winning position.
That they keep managing to do this.
The New England Patriots are ruthless and waiting.
The number – 3
Steelers division titles in four years.
