Ryan Shazier returns to Steelers locker room
Ryan Shazier, who suffered a spinal injury on Dec. 4, is shown on the video board at Heinz Field.
PITTSBURGH — At 3:11 p.m. on Thursday, Ryan Shazier rolled into the Steelers’ locker room and headed straight to Antonio Brown’s locker, around the corner from his own.
Shazier angled his wheel chair to face between Brown and the receiver’s personal photographer. Vernon Shazier, the Steeler’s father, pulled up to the right of Brown and the left of of his son, who gestured with his hands as he spoke.
Three minutes later Joe Haden came across the locker room, and dapped up Shazier. Martavis Bryant came by, too.
Shazier rocked himself back, then forth in his chair, moments before Mike Tomlin briefly joined the four men in the front left corner of the locker room, cracked a joke and carried on.
At 3:16 p.m. Shazier shouted halfway across the room to Robert Golden. They both laughed.
A minute later Tyler Matakevich made it five people in Shazier’s corner of the room for a minute.
After Matakevich left, Vince Williams walked to his locker to the left of where Shazier sat. They chatted about food and sports as Brown left the room. He returned at 3:23 p.m. with two bottles in his hand, giving one to Shazier.
Brown dapped up Shazier, whose father, then Brown and his photographer left.
Shazier wheeled into the equipment room about 15 feet away at 3:25. Equipment staff shuffled in and out of the room around him.
He talked with B.J. Finney, then player engagement coordinator Terry Cousins.
At 3:31 p.m. Finney said goodbye to Shazier and left. Then the locker room closed.
