Philadelphia Eagles sign 7 of 8 NFL draft picks on eve of rookie minicamp
Philadelphia Eagles executives explain decision to draft Sidney Jones
The Philadelphia Eagles announced Thursday they signed seven of of their eight selections from last month’s NFL draft. First-round pick Derek Barnett, a defensive end from Tennessee, is the only player of the group who remains unsigned.
Rookie pay scales are fixed, so Barnett doesn’t have much room to negotiate his contract.
There are small details — such as the timing of the signing bonus payout — that can be adjusted, however, and it’s no surprise that the Eagles’ top pick is the one taking his time to put pen to paper.
All rookie deals stretch four years and their value is dictated by their draft position. OverTheCap.com compiled a complete listing of the rookie pay scale, so hop on over there to look at the specifics.
The data shows that Barnett, the 14th overall pick in the draft, will make about $2.5 million this season, while Eagles second-rounder Sidney Jones (43rd overall), while rake in about $1.1 million.
Philadelphia’s first-year players arrived in town this week in advance of rookie minicamp, which will run from Friday to Sunday.
