Penn State’s Saquon Barkley ‘should run wild’ behind revamped O-line; 2019 recruiting target talks ‘great’ PSU fans, and more
Today’s Penn State football news headlines feature a closer look at the Lions’ improved offensive line and early comments from 2019 recruiting targets.
In the span of a year, Penn State’s offensive line has gone from one of the team’s biggest question marks to a strength and building block. The group is also one of the best in the Big Ten, according to BTN’s Tom Dienhart, who said running back Saquon Barkley “should run wild” this fall.
When James Franklin arrived in 2014, he had just seven scholarship offensive linemen, having to switch two defensive linemen to help out. Now, the front will be a strong point in State College, Pa. Center Brian Gaia is gone, but line coach Matt Limegrover has sophomore left tackle Ryan Bates, sophomore left guard Steven Gonzalez, sophomore center Connor McGovern, senior right guard Brendan Mahon and junior right tackle Chasz Wright. True freshman early enrollee Mike Miranda could win the left guard spot. And when senior Andrew Nelson is healthy, he could figure in at a guard spot, too. Junior running back Saquon Barkley should run wild this fall.
Tyler Donohue of Land of 10 checked in with 2019 Penn State recruiting target Savion Jackson and got his thoughts on his game and the offer from the Lions. Jackson told Donohue he was “surprised” by the offer and said the Lions had “great fans.”
In other Penn State football news, Carl Nassib talks about expectations for the Cleveland Browns. Pitt throws shade at the Lions over lack of NFL draft picks, and the perfect shape of Penn State’s offense is in coordinator Joe Moorhead’s mind.
