Today’s Penn State football news headlines feature a look at four-star linebacker recruit Jack Lamb’s visit to Happy Valley and a lengthy profile on running back Saquon Barkley, in which James Franklin has high praise for the junior.
Lamb, a four-star linebacker from Temecula (Calif.) High School, visited Penn State over the weekend and walked away with an offer. He recapped his trip to State College and told Scout’s Greg Biggins after a five-stop college tour that his parents he comes from “a pretty big PSU family.”
“Coach Franklin is an awesome guy, it was weird to sit down and meet with him face to face after seeing him on TV every weekend,” Lamb told Scout. “I come from a pretty big PSU family so it was a lot of fun to meet Coach Franklin and the rest of the staff in person.”
USA Today’s Paul Myerberg has a lengthy feature on Barkley with remarks from Barkley, Franklin and position coach Charles Huff about the complete package of attributes Barkley brings to the table. The rising junior also shines a light on his ambitions, which include leaving Penn State with every school rushing record. Franklin called Barkley a “Frankenstein” of elite rushing traits.
“I’ve been doing this 23 years, college and NFL, and I’ve never had a guy like this. Never,” Franklin told USA Today. “There are running backs that are fast. That can make you miss. That are strong. If you came up with a desirable list of traits — like Frankenstein, you’re going to build your running back. I don’t know if there’s a box that’s not checked.
“The good lord does not give you everything. Well, in Saquon’s situation, I don’t know if that’s necessarily true.”
