Penn State has been planning for Chris Bleich’s decommitment; just look at all the OT offers

Penn State head coach James Franklin is fond of having a plan for any situation, including what to do when a recruit starts looking around.
It’s why the Lions are in fine shape despite losing a four-star recruit, Wyoming Valley West offensive tackle Chris Bleich, to a decommitment hours after the sun came up on Friday morning, because once the junior started taking visits this spring, to places like Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, and most recently Nebraska, PSU began preparing for the potential that their future and Bleich’s might not be the same by offering a few offensive line prospects.
That list includes Belle Vernon three-star Blake Zubovic, who will be on campus for an unofficial visit this weekend, Aurora, Ill., three-star Bryce Effner, who had hoped to make it but recently told PennLive’s Dustin Hockensmith that he won’t be able to, and Cleveland, Ohio three-star Darian Kinnard, who was just offered this week.
The trio joined an established list of offered line talents like Nana Asiedu, a four-star from North Stafford, Va., who will visit this weekend along with Muskegon, Mich., three-star Antwan Reed. Warner Robins, Ga., four-star Christian Armstrong, and Bronx, N.Y., Qadir White will not be on campus this weekend, but both have seen State College before.
Penn State does not yet have a commitment from any of those names in a year when true future tackles are the focus after the Classes of 2017 and 2016 were mostly filled with interior linemen, but that could change this weekend.
And, even if it doesn’t, the Lions will be fine moving forward, just like they planned it.
Bleich’s decommitment drops PSU to 11 commits in this cycle, though it stood firm at No. 2 in the 247Sports’ Composite rankings behind No. 1 Miami. The gap between the Lions and No. 3 Notre Dame is now smaller, sure, but they still hold a six point lead.
