Penn State a favorite to win the Big Ten? Not quite, but close, in first Las Vegas odds
Las Vegas oddsmaker CG Technology on Wednesday released its 2017 college football conference champions odds.
It unsurprisingly pegged Ohio State as the favorite to win the Big Ten, installing head coach Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes’ as the 9-to-5 favorite, which equates to a money line of +180 meaning gamblers would have to lay $100 to win $180. Michigan checks in as the 12/5 second favorite.
Penn State is the co-third choice along with Wisconsin, as the Lions and Badgers are both listed at 13-to-5, or +260, despite PSU returning almost all of its starting lineup from its 2016 Big Ten championship team.
It’s worth noting that Matthew Holt, the COO at CGAnalytics/Vice President of Business Development for CG Technology, said that the company accepted more bets on Michigan to win last year’s Big Ten championship than any other, and this year’s odds surely reflect the likelihood of that happening again, as well.
Northwestern and Nebraska are the next two teams listed at 15-to-1, while Iowa rounds out the top six at 20-1.
“We are going to treat this team, coaches and our players as if we have not accomplished anything,” head coach James Franklin said following the Blue-White game. “This 2017 team has not accomplished anything yet, so we are not going to talk about these things.
“We will talk about them like we did last year. Those guys want to talk about what they want their goals to be for the season, and we’ll talk about it once and never talk about it again. After that, we will get back to focusing on making each day our masterpiece and making that day the best we possibly can.
Wagers in the coming days, weeks, and months are likely to change the odds come Week 1 in September.
