NFL Draft 2017: New Falcon Takkarist McKinley gives touching tribute to deceased grandmother on draft night
UCLA linebacker Takkarist McKinley made a few promises to his grandmother, Myrtle Collins, on her deathbed – he would better himself by leaving his hometown of Richmond, Calif., he would play NCAA Division I football and he would make it to the NFL.
McKinley fulfilled his third and final promise Thursday night as he was drafted No. 26 overall by the defending NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons.
The 6-foot-2, 250-pound McKinley paid tribute to the woman who essentially raised him by clutching a portrait of her as he walked to the podium for a congratulatory handshake and hug from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
