Lance Dewease Takes Famous Brick Mobile Back to Victory Lane at the Speed Palace
The Brick Mobile in the pits after winning night one of the Weikert Memorial.
Despite a different look to Lance Dewease’s car on Saturday night it still put him in victory lane at Port Royal. Dewease led all 30 laps to earn the Saturday Night Weikert Memorial Race victory along with the $5,000 purse. Dewease was wheeling the throwback Walt Dyer Brick Mobile paint scheme and not the typical baby blue of the Kreitz 69K. Obviously whatever car the Dream Team puts on the track is a car that can win. The Dream Team has entered eight local races this year and won their fifth race of the season on Saturday Night. That’s a 63% winning percentage. Not bad for a team that runs a partial schedule.
Why Dewease claimed the checkered flag
The 2-day Weikert Memorial Race is run with a unique format that awards points for time trial results and passing in the heat races. After timing third quick Dewease started sixth in his heat race. Lance won his heat and earned maximum points for passing five cars. After time trials and all of the heat races were over, Dewease was atop the point standings. That put him in position to be in the redraw for the feature.
Move of the race
Dewease started third in the feature and had a great start making it to the front of the pack on the first lap. After taking the lead Dewease never looked back.
Stats of the race
Joey Hershey, Blane Heimbach, Lance Dewease and Jacob Allen were the heat winners. AJ Flick won the B-main.
Lucas Wolfe set fast time over the 30-car field with a lap of 16.490 seconds averaging 109 mph around the Speed Palace.
There was one caution flag on lap 2 for Logan Wagner. The red flag came out on lap 13 for Danny Dietrich and Aaron Ott in turn 1. Dylan Cisney also got caught up in wreck but was able to rejoin the field after changing his tire.
With the World of Outlaws off this weekend some of the regular drivers from the series with local ties made the trip up for the two-day Weikert Memorial. Brent Marks, Logan Schuchart, Jacob Allen and David Gravel were on hand Saturday night.
Lincoln Speedway did everything they could to get their racing program in on Saturday Night, but Mother Nature had different plans. After a second set of showers passed over the speedway the track was forced to cancel for the night.
