The Triple Crown begins Saturday with the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. The post draw was Wednesday, and here are the updated odds for the event.

Irish War Cry

J Boys Echo
Battle of Midway
State of Honor

So there’s the list of horses with their posts and odds. Classic Empire, Always Dreaming, McCraken and Irish War Cry appear to have a sizable gap on the field in terms of being favorites in the 143-year-old event.
But what does being the favorite mean? A lot in recent years, apparently.
The Derby favorite has won each of the past four races:
Horse: American Pharoah
Horse: California Chrome
*In 2013, third-place Revolutionary was also 6-1.
The last time the favorite won four in a row was 1972-1975, according to OddsShark.com. In the past 13 years, the betting favorite has won seven times, so there’s about a 50-50 chance it will win again this year.
There’s also the chance favorites can go on major droughts: From 1980-1999, the favorite never won a race at Churchill Downs in the Kentucky Derby.
