PITTSBURGH — Joe Haden will not return to the Steelers’ lineup against the New England Patriots.
The former Pro Bowl cornerback was announced among the team’s inactives before the game. His absence leaves Cameron Sutton and Coty Sensabaugh to continue replacing him.
Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that some combination of the rookie and the veteran would replace Haden until he returned. Sensabaugh struggled with a shoulder injury sustained against the Baltimore Ravens before returning to practice fully Friday. He is active.
JuJu Smith-Schuster (hamstring) is also active. A hamstring injury cause him to miss Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers. He was suspended last week for a block to the head of Vontaze Burfict.
The Steelers’ other inactives are tight end Vance McDonald (shoulder), wide receiver Justin Hunter, quarterback Joshua Dobbs, safety J.J. Wilcox, nose tackle Daniel McCullers and offensive tackle and Lancaster-area native Matt Feiler.
McDonald being out leaves the Steelers with two natural tight ends in Jesse James and Xavier Grimble. Offensive tackle Jerald Hawkins has taken over as the third blocking tight end in recent weeks.
