Is LaVar Ball ruining Lonzo Ball’s career?
Much like our country’s Tweeter-in-Chief, sports fans can’t go a week without LaVar Ball saying something that pisses someone off. Ball brings a lot of attention on himself, but his actions may be turning teams and brands off to his talented son, Lonzo Ball — all before he plays a single minute of NBA basketball. Are LaVar’s antics is setting his son up for failure?
Here’s the tense exchange between Kristine Leahy and LaVar Ball on “The Herd.” The awkward exchange marks just the latest headline to come streaming out of LaVar’s mouth.
LaVar Ball Attacks Kristine Leahy on The Herd Live | Colin Cowherd
LaVar Ball got into a heated discussion with Kristine Leahy on “The Herd” when he refused to make eye contact with her. LaVar told Leahy to “stay in her lane,” stating that Big Baller Brand was not a “women’s company.”
Maybe someone needs to tell Ball that in business, it’s not conducive to alienate more than half of the U.S. population. Lonzo, who is the first athlete rocking the brand, is now associated with those words as well. How many companies will want to work with an athlete like that?

Sure. Show that clip with his interview with Leahy, but don’t show the clip of her attacking LaVar. In “Speak For Yourself,” Leahy suggests that LaVar forces his sons into basketball, and that they fear him.
I don’t know about you, but if someone accuses me striking fear into my children, I would lash out to defend myself, too. Should LaVar have said that BBB is not a “women’s company”? No, but his anger stemmed from a wild accusation, so he stood up for himself and his family.

Speaking of great business decisions made by LaVar Ball, his lofty demands for BBB cost Lonzo potentially tens of millions of dollars. Nike, Adidas and Under Armour — three of the biggest names in shoes — passed on endorsing the UCLA guard. There is no doubt that LaVar’s looming presence played a part in each decision.
You know many kids would love to LaVar Ball as a dad? He’s ultra-supportive and really believes in his son’s ability to play basketball. Like a good college football coach, he keeps the attention on himself with crazy statements, and Lonzo can just work on improving his game.

You think the media is tough on Lonzo Ball for his dad? Just wait until you see what his future teammates have in store for him. These are grown men who don’t care who his father is. They will be merciless in the locker room for his father’s antics.

Before Lonzo shows up for training camp, he will have a target on his back. Opposing players are also going to have a field day making life miserable for him. Lonzo’s career is going to be over before it ever began.
