Harrisburg 5-star DE Micah Parsons first Mid-Penn player invited to The Opening since Adam Breneman
Florham Park, N.J. — Micah Parsons is headed to The Opening.
The top-5 nationally-ranked recruit and Harrisburg High Class of 2018 prospect was one of five players to pick up an invitation to the premier prep football showcase event, held annually in Oregon and put on by NIKE, during one of the organization’s regional events here at the New York Jets’ training facility.
He’s the first Mid-Penn player to be selected since Cedar Cliff’s Adam Breneman was back in 2012.
“[I want to prove] that everything is real, my versatility, and just prove I can play different positions on the football fields,” Parsons said before the event kicked off.
He went on to do just that, lining up at linebacker, wide receiver, and defensive end over the course of the morning and afternoon sessions. He was selected to go to The Opening as a linebacker, but could have also been chosen as a defensive lineman, according to event organizers.

The college he chooses will have to make a similar choice, but Parsons isn’t focused so much on that right now after decommitting from Penn State back in April. He said he wants to finish up spring activities before diving back into recruiting, adding that he won’t decide until January 2018 at the earliest, probably at one of the two high school all-star games he currently plans to play in.
“This is a dream come true,” Parsons said. “This is just amazing. I’m just glad I was able and good enough to play in this. It’s just crazy.”
