Former Phillies star Ryan Howard released by Braves
In an attempt to resurrect a once phenomenal career, former Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard signed with the Atlanta Braves on a minor league deal in April. Now, in the second week of May, Howard finds himself on the outside looking in as the Braves decided to release the former Rookie of the Year and MVP today.
Through 42 plate appearances Howard was hitting a horrid .184 with only one home run and 11 strikeouts.
In 13 seasons in a Phillies uniform Howard hit 382 homers, collected 1,194 RBIs, and won a World Series title in 2008, as well as five straight NL East crowns (2007-11). His final year in Philadelphia wasn’t one to write home about as Howard hit .196 with 25 home runs and 59 RBIs.
There is no word on what Howard’s next move will be, but he will always have a spot in the hearts of Phillies fans.
