Former Penn State linebacker Tim Shaw is back in State College for this weekend’s Blue-White football game and is set to address the team today, his publicist said.
Shaw will also hold a signing event for his new book, “Blitz Your Life” Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at The Family Clothesline at 352 E. College Avenue in downtown State College.
“I also get a chance to talk to the football team this week, so I’m fired up and happy to be coming back to where all the good things happened,” Shaw said in a video on his Twitter and Facebook pages.

Shaw played linebacker for the Lions from 2002-’06 and was a fifth-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in the 2007 NFL draft. He played six seasons for the Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears and Tennessee Titans. He went on to get an MBA from George Washington University.
Shaw was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in 2014. He’s been in a fight for his life ever since, which is the central theme in “Blitz Your Life.” Shaw is a motivational speaker who exudes passion for life and preaches gratitude for what he has.
Shaw has dedicated his life to ALS awareness and the fight for a cure. He said he has long thought about writing a book, but accomplished that goal under different circumstances than he thought before his ALS diagnosis.
“I thought I would win a Super Bowl or I would be an MVP or do something great to be ready for that big book moment,” Shaw told PennLive back in January. “When ALS came along, it was actually something bigger than I ever could have thought. I found myself standing on a really big platform. It’s a story that tells itself.
“For me, I wanted to write down my thoughts and feelings about how I lived my life full speed, how to live a life of impact and how to live a life of purpose. This is not a book of my life story. It’s a book about knowing who you are and with that, trying to do the most with what you have.”
