The freshman guard received his release from South Carolina on Monday, according to multiple reports. Beatty retweeted GamecockCentral.com’s report of his impending transfer.
“We want to thank David for everything he did for our program during his time with us, and we wish him the best on and off the court moving forward,” Gamecocks coach Frank Martin said in a release, according to GamecockCentral.com.

Beatty played in 29 games off the bench for South Carolina this season. He averaged 3.0 points and 1.0 rebounds per game in those appearances for the Gamecocks, who went 17-16 and lost in the second round of the SEC Tournament one year after a Cinderella run to the Final Four.
Beatty scored in double figures twice, with a season-high 16 points coming against Limestone on Dec. 27. He tallied 13 against Temple on Nov. 30, and he scored nine in a season-high 33 minutes against Ole Miss on Dec. 31.
In the final 11 games of the season, Beatty played more than 10 minutes only once and had two didn’t play twice. He didn’t score in that stretch either. Beatty is the third Gamecock to transfer this offseason.
David Beatty discusses South Carolina commitment
Beatty arrived at South Carolina last year as a four-star recruit in the 247Sports rankings. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder checked in as the No. 6 player in Pennsylvania, No. 6 combo guard nationally and No. 104 overall prospect in the Class of 2017.
Beatty, who also played for Archbishop Carroll and St. Benedict’s Prep in New Jersey, scored 19 points in Imhotep’s PIAA Class 4A title game rout of Strong Vincent at the Giant Center in Hershey last March. On a team that featured plenty of young talent and a standout senior teammate in Daron Russell, Beatty occupied a secondary role for the Panthers and developed into a lockdown defender.
In December 2016, Beatty helped hold projected NBA first-round pick and former five-star recruit Lonnie Walker to single digits.

“Frank Martin is a great guy,” Beatty said at the time. “He just matched me. He’s just a real person, and he cares about your well-being instead of just a basketball player. Of course, he cares about that part, but he’s just tough and just got to be real disciplined, and I need that discipline.”
