PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles entered Saturday’s NFC divisional round playoff game against the Falcons as rare home postseason underdogs, knowing they needed a well-rounded effort to get past the defending conference champions.
And early, things didn’t look so good. Philly committed a slew of first-half missteps that put a promising season in peril and left the team in a slight halftime hole.
The Eagles rebounded in the second half to pull out a 15-10 victory, though, using contributions from across the board to do it. Quarterback Nick Foles’ improved play down the stretch, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox’s constant pressure and the offensive line’s dominance in the trenches played a role in the team’s first postseason victory since 2009.
The win places Philadelphia in the NFC Championship Game, but before we look ahead to that, we’re reviewing Saturday’s thriller. Here are six Eagles who starred in the win and three who stumbled:
Mills took on the challenge of covering all-pro wide receiver Julio Jones on the game’s crucial play and defended him well enough to force a narrow incompletion. Even beyond that, the Eagles’ second-year cornerback turned in a stellar performance in his first career postseason game — Mills allowed just on catch on four targets, per Pro Football Focus, and he deflected two passes.
All in all, Mills’ strong play in the secondary helped the Eagles’ defense hold up against an explosive Falcons attack.
