Saratoga Spring Wine Stroll returns May 13
Calling all wine lovers. Saratoga Village will again be home to the annual spring Wine Stroll Experience on Saturday, May 13. This year, participants can purchase a selection of the wines they enjoy.
“In previous years, winemakers weren’t selling anything; it was a marketing event for them,” Pat Martell, chairwoman of the Wine Stroll, said. “This year is different because it’s not just about marketing the product, it’s about being able to sell it.”
On the event map, there will be wine bottle icons next to the wineries that are selling their products. On the back of the map, there’s an order form that people can fill out and bring to the wine booth at Ruthe Roberts Wine Collective to purchase the wines that they love and pick them up at the end of the event.
The event is expected to sell out its 500 tickets, plus designated drivers and families will make for a packed Village, but Martell aims to preserve the feeling of connectedness that individuals experience from tasting a wine and speaking to its maker.
“I want to maintain a level that encourages some intimacy between the person who’s tasting the wine and the person who’s serving the wine,” Martell said. “Most times, the person who is serving the wine is the winemaker. They have very up-close, intimate knowledge of that product because they’ve taken it from vine to bottle.”
Village merchants embrace the event because the tasting locations are at stores, giving participants the opportunity to shop for more than just wine.
“It does a lot for the merchants,” Martell said. “It gives them exposure. I encourage the merchants to have something special going on. It is the day before Mother’s Day—have a little display, take Mom home a teddy bear, or a box of chocolates or a beautiful bracelet. It’s an opportunity for someone to pick up the perfect Mother’s Day gift while they’re enjoying the perfect weather in Saratoga.”
There will be 25 stops, each featuring a different winery. Most are local vineyards. Music performances will include Whiskey Pass Neat at Deja Courtyard; Matt Masih at Claudine’s Wine Experience; Lucas Gordon at Saratoga Eyes; Nigel and Clive at Ruthe Roberts Courtyard; Award Winning Jazz at the Book-Go-Round; and Easy Listening at the Inn at Saratoga.
Gift vendors and resource tables include Elizabeth Lynn Moon Jewelry, Kirin Rapal DSS, Rio Jewelry Studio, Beadalena, Lularoe Clothing, Nousa’s Cakes and Sweets, Young Living EO and Santa Cruz Mountains Wine Growers.
Tickets are $45. Along with the ticket, participants receive a souvenir wine glass and a map. Participants must be 21 years old. To see the list of participating wineries visit saratogachamber.org.
